According to a recent market survey, the prices of LED replacement bulbs have reached a tipping point and will be dropping at a significant rate. A typically example is that the price of a 60W equivalent LED light is under $20 in certain areas and still has the potential to drop further. It is mainly due to the reduced manufacture cost of LED chip and LED module that are key parts of LED lighting products.
Currently, an A-19 LED bulb to replace 60 W incandescent bulbs is sold in Korea at $17, while it costs $20 in Japan, $39 in the United States and $58 in Europe. One of the reasons for it being so cheap in Korea is that the country hosts two of the global leading LED manufacturers: Samsung and LG.
LED lighting products' prices were expected to drop at 20% year on year according to Haitz's law ?C the LED industry??s equivalent to Moore's law in silicon semiconductors. However, over the past year, the prices drop more rapidly than that. For example, the price of a 100-120 lm/W efficacy device has fallen by almost 50%, and it is still likely to decline by 5-10% during the next three months.
